I think my favorite realization so far concerns the ‘dogs show restraint against their favorite treat because owner says no’.
No dog instantly knows what ‘no’ means. They have to be trained right?
But once you teach it to them they understand and listen.
It’s basically disproving the ‘boys will be boys’ mentality that insists that children grow out of the lessons they learned at that age and that at adulthood they know what they should and shouldn’t do.
A dog allowed to sleep on your bed as a puppy isn’t going to understand why he isn’t allowed to when he’s full grown.
Someone allowed to abuse and victimize others as a child isn’t going to understand why they aren’t allowed as an adult
